Vasco became the protagonist of a BBC report! Journalists described how our translator formed part of a pilot project being implemented at Southern Health and Social Care Trust. It is now being used in the emergency departments of Craigavon and Daisyhill hospitals, as well as in some GP surgeries on the hospital site. The facilities with the greatest ethnic diversity of patients in Northern Ireland.
As we can read in the BBC report, Vasco is improving communication between patients who do not speak English and healthcare staff in some parts of Northern Ireland.
– We have an increasingly diverse population and we need to provide services for our patients regardless of their ethnicity, cultural background or their language – says Gerard Rocks, assistant director for promoting wellbeing in the Southern Trust.
