At the end of April, the PMM Vasco Emergency Teamvisited Lviv to conduct triage training for the medical staff of the emergency department of Lviv St. Panteleimon Hospital.
Based on the latest guidelines and good practices, the training focused on emergency department management, both in day-to-day operations and under conditions of a massive influx of injured and sick people. This is particularly important in a war-affected country.
Triage, or medical segregation, aims to assign patients to a specific priority in terms of urgency of assistance. Proper triage helps to ensure a smooth flow of patients through the hospital, as well as ensuring proper treatment and optimal involvement of equipment and emergency department staff. By dividing patients in terms of therapeutic priorities, it helps to ensure that the need for specific treatments or procedures is defined efficiently. Particularly importantly, it makes it possible to quickly identify patients in imminent danger to health and life. This ensures that assistance is provided in the order of need and the patient’s condition, rather than in the order of reporting or how they arrive at the emergency department.
